Sysco is the global leader in selling, marketing, and distributing food and non-food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments, and other customers around the world.

In 2021, Sysco announced plans to deploy nearly 800 battery electric tractors by 2026. The first electric hub went live in March 2023 at Sysco’s Riverside operations center. bp pulse will support the project through our charge management software, Omega. One of the first electric vehicle hubs of its kind in the world, the Riverside project is a foundational step toward Sysco’s goal to reduce their direct emissions by 27.5% and add 2,800 electric trucks to their U.S. fleet by 2030.

Setting sights on significant targets

Currently, Sysco operates 40 Freightliner eCascadia trucks at their Riverside facility. Once completed, the facility plans to include the following EV infrastructure:
  • 40 dual port DC fast-charging stations
  • 40 electric, class-8 vehicles
  • 40 electric refrigerated trailers
To accommodate the energy demands of this growing fleet, the Riverside site will also feature four MWh of battery storage and will increase its solar power generation by an additional 1.5 MW.

Seamless integration with on-site technology

The unique element to this project is that bp pulse charge management software, Omega, will interface with Stem’s software Athena, an energy storage software. Athena will assess on-site solar energy generation and battery backup to communicate maximum EV charging limits to Omega. Omega optimizes Sysco’s charging profile for lowest cost of energy.
