Opening marks bp pulse’s sixth major airport hub opening this year
[December 19, 2025] bp pulse, bp's global EV charging business, is proud to announce the opening of its latest EV charging hub located near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The new hub at ORD is part of bp pulse’s broader strategy to build a national EV charging network, with similar hubs already operating near major airports in Los Angeles (LAX), Boston (BOS), San Francisco (SFO), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Houston (HOU). These locations are aimed at providing ride-hail drivers and local EV drivers with fast and convenient charging options on the go.
The ORD hub features 40 ultrafast EV charging bays equipped with a mix of 400kW and 150kW DC fast chargers and CCS and NACS connectors. The site also includes a covered canopy and free Wi-Fi, ensuring a comfortable and efficient charging experience. Additionally, drivers can enjoy amenities at the adjacent bp branded gas station while their vehicles charge, including a convenience store, coffee shop, and restaurants.
Opening our sixth major airport hub is a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our EV charging network across the United States. By strategically placing our hubs in high-demand locations like airports, we’re making it easier for drivers to access the fast and reliable charging they need. Locating this hub next to a bp retail site also means EV drivers can benefit from the convenient amenities already offered to customers today.
Sujay Sharma, CEO of bp pulse Americas
To celebrate the opening, bp pulse hosted a ribbon cutting event, featuring remarks from bp pulse leadership, local officials and partners including ComEd. An EV driver-focused event also took place on December 18th, offering drivers a limited-time opportunity to charge their vehicles for just 1 cent per kWh.
It takes collaboration to increase charging accessibility for EV drivers, which is why ComEd is pleased to team up on this charging hub with bp pulse and the State of Illinois. We understand that cost and charging access are two of the largest barriers for EV adoption, and ComEd is proud to power the expansion of publicly available charging at sites across northern Illinois, backed by our industry leading reliable grid and EV rebates that help offset the costs so that more customers and communities can move toward their EV goals.
Gil Quiniones, president and CEO of ComEd
This hub was funded in part through a $500,000 rebate from ComEd through their Make Ready Rebate program. This is one of three EV rebate programs currently available to ComEd customers, providing business and public sector entities with financial support to help install charging within the ComEd service territory. To learn more about ComEd’s EV rebate programs and resources, visit ComEd.com/EV. The hub was also funded through a $320,000 grant from Illinois EPA’s Driving a Cleaner Illinois Program. Under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), Illinois EPA is providing funding for the installation and maintenance of publicly available Level 2 or Level 3 charging stations.
Illinois EPA is pleased to partner with bp pulse as we continue to build out EV charging infrastructure throughout Illinois. Over 100 state-funded charging locations are now available to motorists and a total of 300 will be online once construction is completed.
James Jennings, Acting Director of Illinois EPA
bp pulse is building its network across a variety of site types in bp's retail network of bp, Amoco, ampm, Thorntons and TravelCenters of America locations. Many of these sites provide drivers with amenities while charging, such as convenience stores, restaurants, and car washes. Additionally, bp pulse is installing ultrafast chargers at new-to-industry sites and other destinations.
